Agency Planning Conference Rescheduled to Spring, 2005

A decision has been made by senior Interim Authority and MCFD management staff, supported by the Interim Authority for Community Living British Columbia Board of Directors, to delay the agency planning conference until the spring of 2005.  This conference was originally scheduled to be held in Vernon on November 18 and 19, 2004. 

The reason for this decision is based on the fact that a significant number of issues remain to be resolved in the move to community governance. These include:

·   Orientation of the new MCFD Assistant Deputy Minister / Community Living British Columbia [CLBC] Chief Executive Officer Designate [Phil Goodman];

·   Selection of other senior Interim Authority management team members;

·   Final CLBC board composition;

·   Passage of Bill 45 - 2004 - Community Living Authority Act; and an

·   Analysis of the implications of the new governance and service delivery model. 

Currently, a transition plan is being developed that will address these and other issues.  Senior staff and the board believe that it is very important to ensure that any content presented at the conference is consistent with the direction that the Board of Directors will take in the next few months.  By postponing the conference until the spring of 2005, the move to community governance will be well underway – a spring conference will help to build on this momentum.

The rescheduled conference will be held in Vernon, likely sometime during April or May of 2005.  If a venue cannot be secured in that city, the commitment remains to hold the conference in the Okanagan. 

A great deal of work has been done so far by the conference organizing committee to develop a comprehensive and exciting conference program, and we are optimistic that this will continue to form the basis of our ongoing planning work.
